Keeping dogs in a fenced area when they are outside has several benefits, including:

  • Helping to prevent road injuries (hit by a car)
  • Reducing contact with wildlife and other dogs
  • Preventing unwanted mating
  • Preventing dog bites
  • Keeping dogs contained and preventing roaming
  • Reducing disease transmission
  • Keeping out unwanted people
  • Reducing the need for chaining up dogs

Here’s how to make a Wooden Pallet fence happen!

You’ll need:

  • Pallets
  • screws
  • screwdriver or drills
  • metal fence posts
  • Shovel
  • cement (optional)
  • hinge (optional)

Step One: Find Pallets

Pallets are wooden platforms that are used by many companies to transport and store goods. Hardware stores, construction sites, furniture stores, pet stores, grocery stores, breweries and other companies that transport large volumes of goods often have lots of pallets that they no longer need, so building fences is a great way to utilize them and reduce waste!

Step two: Flatten the ground

Ensure that the ground area where the fence will be is flat. This may involve using a shovel to remove rocks and any vegetation.

Step three: Line up the pallets

Pallets can be lined up horizontally or vertically. Vertically placed pallets will create a taller fence that is more suitable for larger dogs.

Step Four: Secure the fence

Drive metal fence posts into the ground, just inside the pallet’s edge. Additionally, you can screw the pallets together so they are securely attached to one another. Rocks and dirt can be used to provide external support to keep the fence standing.

Optional:

  • Purchase metal hinges and attach them between two pallets to create a door
  • For a more stable fence, consider using cement to hold the pallets in place on the ground
