Caron Dubnick

I live on Lac La Ronge in Northern Saskatchewan, where access to the boreal landscape is immediate and constant. My artwork arises always from the sensory pleasure I take from my environment, and my desire to re-immerse myself in things that have moved me: colors, textures and contrasts; light, weather and moods; grand vistas and easily overlooked detail.

The piece I submitted for the ‘Dog Medicine’ Exhibit is a fabric piece, of my own dyed and painted cotton, decoratively stitched then quilted. Fabric work excites me for its textural effects, and the much more kinesthetic and tactile way of working.

The piece, “We Walk”, portrays a crucial element of my relationships with the past and present dogs in my life…..the companionship experienced on daily wilderness walks.
