John Halkett

My name is John Halkett, I’m 64 years old. I was born and raised in La Ronge. My dad and my mother were Thompson and Polly Halkett and they were both raised in the La Ronge area. I have 3 grandchildren, two sons, and one wife.

Right now, I’m an Elder at the Bells Point Elementary School. Now and then I use acrylic and watercolor, and I do a bit of illustrating for Cree language materials.

I try to portray what the people of the north do, how they travelled. Like one of the scenes I made of a dog team. That was one way how they traveled.
